Media, communications, and advocacy specialist Patience Nyange has resigned as a Council Member at the Media Council of Kenya to vie for Taita Taveta governorship.
While announcing her resignation, Patience said she has all it takes to be the third and the first woman Governor of Taita Taveta County come August 9.
Born and brought up at Kisorongonyi, a small village in Mbale location, she said it is time to give back to the community by offering development-conscious servant leadership.
“I come home, to seek an opportunity to become the third and the first Woman Governor in Taita Taveta County,” she noted, adding that the community had made her what she is today.
Patience went to local schools Fighinyi Primary and the famous Murray Girls High, where she held leadership positions from class one and as a head girl for two years.
At Daystar University, she studied Mass Communication, Electronic Media as an undergraduate and later worked for local and international media houses.
In 2009, she joined the University of Nairobi to pursue a Master’s Degree in International Studies and Diplomacy and later Cardiff University, Wales, for a Master’s Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication Management.
She previously held various national posts including assistant director at Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, communications advisor at the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, and a Media Council of Kenya board member.
In a separate interview with the Daily Nation, she said she is one person who treasures critics in her life, as they give her a reason to pray.
“I am now in politics, so the more critics I have, the better for me. They give me reasons to refocus my undertakings,” she stated.
She will be facing the incumbent, Governor Granton Samboja, former Governor John Mrutu, Norway-based Racheal Mwakazi, lawyer and economist Stephen Mwakesi among others.
