Governor Lee’s UPF party to further regional interests, back Raila presidency

Though Governor Lee has not made a formal comment on the UPF party, today he said voters from the Mt Kenya region are never blind in making choices at the ballot and that everyone has chances to sell their manifestos to the mountain.

As the next elections draw near, politicians are in a huff to form small political parties to advance the ideologies of their backyards and avoid the fallout witnessed in Jubilee, UDA, NASA, and other parties.

The latest such party is Ubuntu Peoples Forum (UPF), a party associated with Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui plans to back ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 polls.

In an interview with KTN a week ago, Governor Lee said he could start his party and that Nakuru County must be at negotiating table in the formation of the next government, citing the region’s non-representation in State postings.

The UPF, now under Mr Samuel Kinya Rukahu as the party leader, was formerly known as the Citizens Convention Party (CCP) before the current takeover and the name was the change, according to a Registrar of Political Parties’ notice.

“In exercise of the power conferred by section 20 (i) (e) and (ef) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Citizens Convention Party (CCP) intends to change its party particulars,” the statement from the registrar of political parties read in part.

Though Governor Lee has not made a formal comment on the UPF party, today he said voters from the Mt Kenya region are never blind in making choices at the ballot and that everyone has chances to sell their manifestos to the mountain.

Other leaders in the UPF party, which is guided by the principle of human values, comprises Ms Beatrice Nyawira as Chairperson and Njoroge Gichuhi as its Secretary-General. Youth Leader Ken Mbaria has since resigned from KANU where he served in the same capacity.
