Meanwhile, women constitute 48.86% of deputies in the National Assembly of People’s Power , a determine that demonstrates the important contribution made by Cuban women to drafting policy and perfecting the island’s socialist system. It is sort of impossible to speak about future projects in Cuba or the work done over all these years to assemble a socialist society, without mentioning the role of girls in decision making and their contribution in key spaces since the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959. Now, for the first time, a unique drug developed on the communist island is being tested in New York state. But some American cancer sufferers are already taking it – by defying the embargo and flying to Havana for therapy. He is now unable to visit Cuba for fear of being imprisoned on the island for desertion.

Why Cuba?

In 2018 he utilized for a humanitarian visa to go to his mother who had most cancers. “That’s the way they play it, dangling permissions and gifts in front of you so individuals play ball. I soon realised our mission was more political than humanitarian.” In response, the Cuban government denied the claims, saying that its “honourable” doctors had saved nearly 1.5m lives in Venezuela, as well as citing their participation in the battle in opposition to Ebola in Africa and cholera in Haiti, amongst other examples. “During the 2004 marketing campaign for the recall referendum, we medical doctors were despatched out door to door to offer out items and medicines to spice up help for President Chávez,” he says.

The maternal-infant well being program is a precedence for the Ministry of Public Health in its efforts to scale back the country’s infant mortality rate – which stood at 4 per 1,000 live births in 2017 – and maternal deaths every year. Since then, the FMC has continued to grow and right now has over four million members, ninety.6% of Cuban women over the age of 14 years, the minimal age requirement to turn into a member. Cuban women even have access to free and universal education and healthcare, and symbolize 60% of all college graduates.

Cuba Reaffirms Ongoing Efforts To Equalize Women’S And Men’S Roles At Home And Numbers Of Women In Government Decision

World Bank figures put the 2016 figure at fifty six per one hundred,000, topped solely by El Salvador and Honduras. In October 2011, the young doctor was posted to a clinic in the Venezuelan town of El Sombrero. The placement was a part of the Barrio Adentro scheme, which has distributed Cuban docs round disadvantaged elements of the South American country since 2003 as an emblem of Cuban assist for the regime of the late President Hugo Chávez and his successor, Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela pays for this and different services by Cuban employees with oil.

Contribution To Cuban Revolution

A demographic dynamics that has amongst its principal profiles the progressive population aging and whose challenges level to a number of spheres of Cuban life which have to be dealt with based mostly on current-day occasions is showing behind the visible grey hair of many Cuban women. If the aim of US-Cuban relations is to advertise human rights in Cuba, then denying women and others economic alternatives to escape poverty, reduce their reliance on the state apparatus, and enter the personal sector will accomplish the alternative. The founding father of Cuba Emprende, a startup incubator that has skilled more than 1,000 entrepreneurs since 2012, famous that what was a male-dominated program now really consists of about 60% women. The writers of the letter — who are artisans, cooks, photographers, hotel homeowners, and more — famous that ladies are more and more leading the charge to extend non-public sector development in Cuba. They stated that lots of of thousands of women are already getting involved in the private sector in Cuba.

For Cuban women particularly, who make up a growing proportion of the emergent personal sector, a coverage of retrenchment and isolation might have disastrous effects on their incipient companies. Many US travelers keep in Cuban homes, eat in Cuban restaurants, and engage in cultural exchange that fosters greater understanding and dialogue between the 2 nations.

According to the Prisoners Defenders report, greater than half of forty six doctors with expertise of overseas missions who have been interviewed reported having to falsify statistics – inventing sufferers, affected person visits and pathologies that didn’t exist. By exaggerating the missions’ efficacy, the Cuban authorities can, the report says, demand higher levels of cost from the host nation, or justify the enlargement of the operation. The mission co-ordinator got here to take the two women away from this location, however, Julia says, he suffered no apparent penalties or official reprimand for having exposed members of his group to such danger. Venezuela was at that time in the midst of a criminal offense rate spiral that has led to a homicide fee of ninety two per a hundred,000 inhabitants in 2016, in accordance with the NGO Venezuelan Observatory of Violence.

Cuba has long been renowned for its medical diplomacy – hundreds of its docs work in healthcare missions around the world, incomes the country billions of dollars in money. But according to a brand new report, a few of the doctors themselves say circumstances can be nightmarish – controlled by minders, topic to a curfew and posted to extremely dangerous locations, James Badcock reports. At present, the federal government is remodelling the Homes for the Elderly, whose numbers are – and was previously browse around these guys noted – way below the rising needs and the access availabilities are too low . We might place at the tip of the problem Cuba, a poor, third world nation ; and on the other Germany, which has some of the strong economies in Europe and better programmes for the care of the aged on a world level. The poor ones, who do not have the cash for this, let their hair go grey with no other different.

They don’t even have the liquidity to buy one thing more necessary, for well being and aesthetic causes, like dentures. It must be taken into consideration that on this initial period of emancipation it was very important to be devoted to collective work and private development as a substitute of caring for their aspect. However, those had been the years in which Cuban women changed the mascara with shoe polish, and for eye shadow used color pencil scrapings blended with a cream that could nicely be even a deodorant of the one and national trademark, Fiesta.

Cuban Woman, 82, Wears Full

Once a woman arrived mid-labour, Dayli remembers, but the clinic did not have the right set of instruments for delivering a baby. Another time, she says she needed to inset a tube into a affected person by the light of her telephone as there was no fuel for the generator.

Bees on a honey comb

Nakuru City will this year host the Regional World Bee Day (WBD) celebrations from the 18th – to the 20th of May 2022.

The yearly event is commemorated to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators for humanity in food security, global hunger eradication, and environmental and biodiversity conservation.

Under the theme; “Bee engaged: Celebrating the contribution of bees to the environment, food security and income generation to mankind.”

The forum will share knowledge from across the world, and draw the attention of the public and decision-makers to the importance of protecting bees as well as halting the further loss of biodiversity and degradation of ecosystems following the Paris Agreement.

FAO estimates that bees contribute to the pollination of food worth between $ 235 and $ 580 billion every year and that their decline continues to strain food systems.

Intensive farming practices, excessive use of agrochemicals, habitat loss, and adverse effects of climate among other issues have been identified as key hindrances causing the depopulation of bees and loss of colonies.

With such challenges, there is a need to come up with solutions that are resistive to the increasing bee population globally.

According to FAO, Kenya ranks third in Africa after Tanzania which is the largest producer of honey and produces approximately 31,405 tonnes annually while Angola ranks second producing about 23,500 tonnes annually.

As of 2020, Kenya’s production of honey was at 17,801 tonnes, up from 13,877 tonnes the previous year, this is a change of 28.28%.

Speaking during a past apiculture stakeholders’ workshop, State Department for Livestock Production Principal Secretary, Mr Harry Kimtai, expressed concern that new pests and farm pesticides have hit colonies hard.

“We’re collaborating with devolved units to halt the alarming depletion of bee colonies. Bee colony multiplication initiatives include capacity building, beekeeping equipment distribution, and bee bulking,” revealed PS Kimtai.

Despite the potential of honey production and the benefits of apicultural activity, very little income accrues from the activity.

The government in its progress, in the Big Four Agenda on 100% food and nutrition security, is committed to enhancing honey production from 25,000 tonnes to 38,000 tonnes by the year 2022.

Beekeeping offers an alternative source of livelihood and protects biodiversity and should ideally be established away from human interaction with enough bee forage and all-year-round availability of water to provide favourable conditions for beekeeping.

Nakuru County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Dr Immaculate Maina, says that, ‘’bees have become increasingly endangered with one million species facing extinction. Thus, beekeeping should be embraced as an alternative environmentally friendly income-earning enterprise.”

‘’We hope that by hosting this event, we will be able to proactively assist in the opening up of our county by giving marketing opportunities and investment prospects in the apiculture industry,” Dr Maina noted.

“We also anticipate important topics discussed during the three-day forum, such as the role of women in the sector as those most affected by climate change, solutions to save our bee species from extinction, and how we can continue to rely on pollinators to save us from the current climate crisis,” she concluded.

Acting CEO of the Apiculture Platform of Kenya (APK), Mr Frederick Otieno Odera, says that beekeeping has significant potential in Africa to improve rural incomes and diversify livelihoods.

“We hope the commemoration of the National World Bee Day will showcase new technologies and sustainable measures from across the world in the apiculture industry and provide sustainable solutions to save our bees in the current climate crisis,” said Otieno.

The Apimondia Regional Commission (ARC) President, Mr David Mukomana, in a statement, said the three-day program will include technical tours to see beekeeping within Nakuru County and any other areas, exhibitions, seminars and the actual celebrations.
