Dundori MCA Michael Machembu has hit out at Nakuru County Chief Officer for Education Jamleck Maina for returning to county stores food meant for private school teachers.

The County Government of Nakuru mid-June set up an emergency kitty to cushion the teachers against economic shocks caused by the closure of schools in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Maina directed that food portions for teachers who did not avail themselves at Anestar Boys High School be carted away and the beneficiaries pick them at County headquarters.

This did not go well with the MCA who demanded that the food be issued to other teachers present and had not been listed, arguing that they too were needy.

The CO stated that issuing the food would raise an audit query as those present had not been listed as beneficiaries and no proof that they were private schools teachers.

“We are working with a list generated by the Kenya Private Schools Association and no individual is allowed to receive the donation on behalf of the other,” he stated.

Over 600 private schools and early childhood development teachers from Bahati sub-County are expected to benefit from the first phase of the COVID-19 food donations.
