The Law Society of Kenya- Rift Valley Chapter has weighed into the strained relationship between Chief Justice David Maraga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The CJ on Monday vented over President Uhuru’s failure to appoint 41 judges cleared by the Judicial Service Commission and persistent disregard for court orders.

LSK Chapter President John Ochang’ warned that the bad blood between the Judiciary and the Executive will make Kenyans lose faith with the country’s judicial system.

“The President should move with speed and appoint the judges as listed by the JSC and address other matters raised for an effective Judiciary,” he advised.

He cited that failure by the President to appoint the judges in time has led to a serious backlog of cases, making justice too expensive for a common man.

“The Judiciary’s independence must be respected at all times,” he stated.

In his address, CJ Maraga reminded the President that he swore to defend and protect the Constitution.

LSK President Nelson Havi said the legal body would initiate motions in the National Assembly and the Senate to impeach President Kenyatta.
