The cordial working relationship between the legislative and the executive arms of the government has seen Nakuru County make major development strides.

According to the Speaker of the County Assembly of Nakuru, Joel Kairu the two arms have not had squabbles in the last 5 years, as was the norm in the previous government.

He added that Governor Lee Kinyanjui’s administration has ensured progress, and actual and factual deliverables coupled with prompt service delivery to the electorate.

“The swift assent to Bills presented to the Governor by the County Assembly of Nakuru is a hallmark of focused leadership,” he stated on his official Facebook page.

The Speaker, who served as the Minister for Transport and Public Works in the previous regime, added that Governor Kinyanjui remains his best choice, now and in the future.

In the 1st House, under the leadership of Susan Kihika, the County was characterized by unwarranted summons, impeachment notices and fights at the Assembly.

On March 10, 2015, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) exchanged blows following a disagreement over former Majority leader George Mwaura’s ouster.

The chaos was blamed on the Speaker, Susan Kihika, for orchestrating the removal of House leaders whom she perceived as a threat due to their independence.

“We cannot allow this kind of dictatorship and anarchy. We have already given a notice of impeachment and 33 members have signed it,” said the then Ndundori MCA Stephen Kihara.

In 2014, Speaker Kihika asserted her authority and oversaw the removal of County head of Procurement, Elizabeth Masaku over her strict adherence to procurement laws.

Masaku had made it clear that companies linked to County officials and MCAs should not be allowed to do business with the County in the Sh5 billion development kitty.

The manner in which Speaker Kihika conducted the debate on the impeachment report raised eyebrows, as she deliberately ignored members who were opposed to the report.

Now a Senator, Kihika is in the race to oust Governor Lee, but her dark past as the Speaker dogs her ambitions, with a section of voters expressing fear over her alleged dictatorial tendencies.
