Arama hosts constituents for Easter Breakfast

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama on Sunday hosted hundreds of his constituents for Easter Breakfast.

Speaking during the event, Arama reminded constituents of the need to continue expressing love and sharing with the less privileged in society.

“Easter is all about sharing and that is why I decided we meet and share a cup of tea as a family in Nakuru West” said Arama.

He stated that true leaders are those who always stand with electorates.

The vocal Nakuru Legislator also used the opportunity to drum up support for Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya.

Arama was categorical that President Uhuru Kenyatta had shown the country direction in supporting former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for Presidency in the coming general elections.

He urged Nakuru Town West constituents to back Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition adding that it will carry the day come August 9.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta means good for this country and that is why he has shown us direction and that is where we should be all of us Azimio is the way” he said.

Arama who will be defending his seat on Jubilee party ticket is confident that he will clinch the seat owing to his development agenda.

On many occasions, he has urged electorates to elect leaders based on development record and shun those with divisive politics.

Reprieve for flower Farm workers as new CBA is signed

The CBA with Flora Ola Flower Farm for the welfare of over 1,500 workers once implemented will see minimum basic salary at between Sh 7,500 and sh 12,500.

It is now a reprieve for flower workers in the country after Kenya Export, Floriculture, Horticulture and Allied Workers’ Union (KEFHAU) entered a collective Bargaining agreement.
Speaking at Flora Ola Flower Farm in Solai, Rongai Subcounty of Nakuru, KEFHAU National Chairman Peter Palang’a noted that the CBA was a milestone after more than 10 years in court battle with Francis Atwoli-led Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union.
With the new development, Palang’a says it will help address many challenges that workers in the flower farms have been going through.
“We have entered a CBA with this Flora Ola Flower Farm. This has been in the waiting for the past 11 years as our Union  KEFHAU and  KPAWU led by our brother  Francis Atwoli engaged in a tussle over members, which on various occasions ended up in court” said Palang’a.
Palanga  who is also the MCA of Olkaria Ward in the County Assembly of Nakuru is however optimistic that with the new CBA that has incorporated governance mechanisms and other strategies will help address unecessary unrests in flower farms.
He added that it will also reduce workers-employee conflicts that have in the past led to sacking of workers.
“The CBA will ensure an end to unnecessary unrests in flower farms across the country. We have factored in ways of resolving conflicts as well as ensuring the welfare of the workers in terms of renumeration and leave days.” stated Palang’a.

The KEFHAU National Chairman was quick to note that they have no issue with Atwoli-led KPAWU and that they are ready to work together in defending rights and promoting welfare of workers in the industry.
The Court of Appeal had in 2018 thrown out a similar appeal forcing the workers’ umbrella body to seek the intervention of the Supreme Court.
While upholding the decision by the Registrar of Trade Unions to register Kefhau, the judges said that all the legal processes had been followed.
In 2019 KPAWU survived an attempt to stop it from representing over 60,000 workers in the horticulture industry.
KEFHAU filed a case in the Employment and Labour seeking to bar the Atwoli-led Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union (KPAWU) from representing workers in the industry and declare that it is the sole trade union, which is allowed by its constitution to carry out activities in the export floriculture and vegetable industry, and an order restraining Atwoli’s from representing workers in that area.
Justice James Rika, however, dismissed the claim and ruled that the dispute should have been taken through conciliation, and was therefore presented in court prematurely.
According to the Labour Relations Act 2007, before a new union is registered, the promoters are required to write to the registrar of trade unions and present their constitution.
A Gazette notice is then published to notify the public of plans to register the new union. If no objection is raised, the union is allowed to start recruiting members.

Flamingo Ward MCA Eddy Kiragu has expressed optimism of clinching his seat for second term.

The vocal youthful MCA emerged the winner in the just concluded UDA party primaries.

He says, the remaining three months he will be lobbying to ensure all votes are  consolidated in his favour come August 9.

“I want to thank the people of Flamingo Ward for believing in me. The journey has just started and I am optimistic that we shall have victory come August” said Kiragu.

Kiragu was elected in 2017 on Jubilee ticket but this year he will be defending his seat on UDA party ticket.

The youthful MCA’s leadership is anchored on 5 pillars namely; Education, Social empowerment, Security, Health and Poverty eradication.

According to him, all the issues affecting the people of Flamingo ward fall among the five items which he has been addressing in the 5 years of his tenure as MCA for the ward.

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has called on Senator Susan Kihika to keep of matters Nakuru West politics.

Arama who is defending his seat on Jubilee ticket within Azimio la Umoja coalition, says Senator Kihika has been meddling with Nakuru Town West politics.

According to the Lawmaker, Kihika an ally of Deputy President William Ruto is busy trying to plant aspirants in Nakuru West.

He added that the move is what led to the postponement of Nakuru West UDA Parliamentary nominations.

Arama opines that Nakuru Town West residents are enlightened and cannot be coerced on who to vote for.

“I want to send a strong message to Kihika to keep of Nakuru Town West politics for we know how to strategize ourselves” he said.

The vocal Nakuru Legislator was categorical that since he took over leadership in the cosmopolitan constituency in 2013, he has been able to transform it.

He urged locals to shun leaders who come with divisive politics.
