]]> Irene Njoki’s bid to capture Bahati Parliamentary seat in the August 9 polls has received major boost after members of Turkana community in Bahati vowed their support for her.

Led by their chairman Justus Ekeno, the pointed out that the community was sidelined for many years by the leadership.

He added that this has seen them open their eyes and decided to support Njoki’s bid.

The members of the community hit out at the current MP Kimani Ngunjiri for neglecting them.

“As a community we have been sidelined for long and we say enough is enough.We will rally to consolidate votes for Irene Njoki so that we can see some change in Bahati” said Justus.

Similar sentiments echoed by Mary Ekai.

While drumming support for Njoki, Ekai regretted that the current MP has continued to talk ill of the community with words such as “Kura yenu haijai hata kikombe”.

For this reason, Ekai says the community has made a decision to full rally behind Njoki.

“As women from the Turkana community in Bahati we want to send a strong message to Ngunjiri that you cannot abuse us and expect our support, forget about that” said Ekai.

Speaking at Bahati Centre after receiving the members of the Turkana community, Njoki commonly known as ‘Mrembo na Kazi’, she vowed to ensure the minority groups are also part of her leadership.

Njoki took issue with the current MP for showing no respect for the minority adding that her leadership will ensure such limitations are addressed.

“I want to assure you of my support and that of Jubilee.We know there are those who have looked down upon you but be assures I personally value your vote.My leadership will incorporate all the communities” she said.

The Jubilee nominee for Bahati Parliamentary seat also called on the party to ensure more nominations for the marginalized communities.

According to her, this will ensure unity of purpose that will see development for all.

Njoki has been involved in various empowerment programs for youths,women and the vulnerable in Bahati.

She uses every platform to sell her agenda to the people ahead of the August 9 polls.

]]> In what is seen as unity of  UDA party, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Senator Susan Kihika on Saturday reconciled ending their political differences.

The duo have of late not been in good terms despite both  being supporters of Deputy President William Ruto.

They reconciled before Deputy President who was in Nakuru to drive his bottom-up agenda.

It is during this that Ngunjiri vowed to support Kihika in her political bid.

Kihika has declared interest for the gubernatorial seat to unseat Governor Lee Kinyanjui who recently states that he will defend his seat on Ubuntu People’s Forum.

Ngunjiri made the remarks before Deputy President William Ruto who was on a tour in Subukia and Bahati sub counties.

“I will do all I can to support you Senator for the top seat in the county.I have no issue” said Ngunjiri.

The move has left many shocked after the Bahati Lawmaker in the past vowed to only support DP Ruto.

The Legislator also made it clear that he had burried their political differences with Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika for the sake of UDA party.

Kihika on her part called on residents of Nakuru county to support DP Ruto’s bottom up economic models.

She reiterated that UDA party will form the next government.

“Thank you so much people of Bahati and Subukia for turning out in large numbers.UDA is the party to watch come 2022 and we must all come and support DP Ruto’s agenda to transform this agenda.

]]> The national and county governments have been challenged to allocate more funds to nature talents among persons living with disabilities within the country.

The move follows concerns that a number of these talented groups had been side-lined with others being misused by their managers taking advantage of their situation to rake in cash.

Lucy Gitama said there was little attention on disabled musicians adding that there was a need to allocate more budget for the same.

She said a clear budgetary allocation for this special group would go a long way in boosting their income to reduce dependency on people.

Speaking in Bahati on Sunday during a launch of an album by a blind singer Jane Wambui, – Gitama called on the formulation of more policies to nature such talents adding that talents were wasting in villages.

“There have been concerns that some disabled are not getting their dues.I think it is high time the government  collects data  and disburse the funds to help boost the disabled” she said.

On her part, Jane Wambui called on the government to focus more on embracing the growing talents of persons living with disabilities as ways to ensure they become self-reliant.

Wambui said she is dependent on her music for daily living adding that she has to sell her records manually to earn her income revealing that at times it is a challenge.

“I have been depending on my music for daily bread.The government should look on how it can help us nurture our talents” said Wambui.

At the same time, Benson Gitanga said Wambui’s songs have become a hit in Bahati adding that she has given hope to many in the area.

Area MCA John Njuguna called on other person’s living with disabilities to focus on their talents saying it was the way to go.

“As a county government, we shall do all we can to help PWDs” said MCA Njuguna.

]]> Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri has told off Environment Cabinet Secretary for linking him as as a person of interest in the murder case of environmentalist Joannah Stuchbury.

Speaking at his Maili Kumi home on Sunday when he hosted youth from all the wards in Bahati, Ngunjiri said the sentiments by Tobiko were baseless.

He said already his legal team is preparing to face Tobiko in court for tainting his name.

“I am not in that league of Tobiko. Let him know that I have a family and also people that I represent. MY lawyers will handle the matter in court” said Ngunjiri.

Detectives are now treating Ngunjiri as a person of interest in the matter.

Environmental Cabinet Secretary, Keriako Tobiko, told the Senate Security Committee on Tuesday, October 26, that Stuchbury was murdered over her relentless efforts to conserve the environment.

CS Tobiko in his submission made a reference to a case before the Kiambu Court that linked a company in which the vocal MP is the director.

In the case, the CS stated that the environmentalist managed to stop the MP from creating an access road through the forest to his personal land. He noted that the MP needs to be probed regarding the matter.

The vocal Nakuru MP and a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto also called on youth to shun divisive politics but rally behind leaders who mean good for the country.

He also used the moment to rubbish claims that he was eyeing a top seat.

According to Ngunjiri, his development record in Bahati is very clear and will be his campaign strategy towards recapturing the seat.

Ngunjiri told off his competitors terming them ‘newcomers’ in politics.

“There are those people going around with propaganda that I will be contesting either as senator or governor. Those are lies which have no room. My record is clear and I will be defending my seat as MP because there is more that needs to be done for my people” said Ngunjiri”.

He says this is the only way to ensure economic growth in the country.

Speaking at his home on Sunday where he hosted youth from all the wards in Bahati, Ngunjiri said the economy of the country can only grow if the youth and common citizens are empowered.

Under the Bahati NG-CDF kitty, over 500 youth have received training in various short courses.

This, the Legislator noted that has seen many of them start up businesses.

“Youth in Bahati have received over Ksh.20 million and the revolving fund has seen many of them start businesses.This is the true empowerement that liberates people from poverty” said Ngunjiri.

The vocal Nakuru MP defended his development record stating that it’s due to his urge to see a transformed society.

It is for this reason that he directed NG-CDF to give priority to all young people who want to  continue with training.

“I have instructed the NG-CDF office to put more emphasis on continuing students both current and former who want to continue with their studies” he stated.

]]> Deputy President William Ruto has maintained that United Democratic Alliance Party(UDA) is the party to watch come 2022 general election.

Speaking during a Sunday service at St.Augustine Catholic Church in Bahati, Nakuru county,Ruto stated that UDA was formed after wrangles erupted in Jubilee party.

While noting that Jubilee party was started in Nakuru,the DP was categorical that afew individuals started messing up the party by chasing away key minds.

“We started Jubilee here in Nakuru and we had good agenda for the nation not until the likes of Murathe and Tuju started chasing away people and the agenda we had to transform this country hit snag and that is why we now have UDA so that we can go on with the agenda we had of transferring Kenya’s economy” he said.

According to the DP, already UDA has 150 MPs before even elections and that the MPs are from various parts of the country reflecting a national image.

He maintained that,UDA will ensure the initial agenda they had for this country is achieved.

“We had good development during our first term as Jubilee when there was unity.But when division began then we ended up with no fucus even on the Big 4 agenda instead we were told that BBI is the only good thing” he stated.

The DP who was accompanied by various MPs allied to UDA led by host Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika among others,urged Nakuru residents to rally behind UDA for transformed nation.

During the service,Ruto also made contribution towards construction of the church.

He urged religious leaders not to grow weary in serving humanity and God.

]]> All licenses for wines and spirits, bars and liquor joints in Nakuru County will undergo fresh vetting, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has stated.

Speaking on Wednesday in Hodi Hodi Village of Kabatini in Bahati Sub County during the burial of 7 of the 10 people who died after consuming illicit brew, Kinyanjui said the County government will take strict measures.

Kinyanjui said the move will help address the mushrooming of illicit brew businesses that led to the deaths in Kabatini.

“We say enough is enough to our youth and men dying from consuming poisonous brew. Nakuru County will not license merchants of death. We will from now hold public participation before issuing liquor licenses and those already issued will undergo fresh vetting” he said.

Kinyanjui also called on the National Government to step up and use intelligence to fight illicit brew.

He urged lawmakers in Parliament and Senate to push for tough laws to end illicit brew menace.

“They should consider passing laws to legalize traditional brew such as muratina that previously were taken during ceremonies” said Kinyanjui.

Area MP Kimani Ngunjiri faulted police officers pointing out that Kiugu-ini police station has been derailing the fight on illicit brew.

Sentiments echoed by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who decried the continued illicit brew menace that eventually led to the death of the 10.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika said there was need for government to up the fight on illicit brew in the country.

She cited Kiambu and Murang’a Counties in Central Region as notorious brew dens.

]]> Riftvalley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has announced the interdiction of 9 administrators following a killer illicit brew in Kabatini,Nakuru North that claimed 10 lives.

The nine include Bahati North Deputy County Commissioner Geofrey Mayama,Assistant County Commissioner Kiamaina Mr.Isaac Ooko,area Sub county Police Commander Bernanard Wamugunda,Kiuguini  OCS Solomon Wamae, Nakuru North Sub county CIPU Robert Koima.

Others are Kabatini Chief John Thuo,his Thayu counterpart Paul Gikungu, Assistant Chiefs John Mbugua(Kabatini),and Paul Gathathai(Thayu).

Addressing the media in Nakuru on Monday morning, Natembeya stated that the 9 administrators have 21 days to show cause why they should not be dismissed.

He added that new officers will be deployed in the area soon,but on acting capacity as the due procedure is followed.

“The 9 officers have 21 days to show cause why they should not be dismissed. As A government we do not tolerate officers who sleep on their job while Kenyans are suffering” said Natembeya.

Natembeya also used the moment to sound a stern warning to police officers in the area who have been receiving bribes to allow illicit brew businesses.

According to him, any officer who is found culpable will be dealt with, adding that there will be no transfers but full dismissal to avert such problems being transferred to other areas.

“We will not transfer problems from one area to another,we shall interdict” he said.

The RC who was accompanied by a top security team led by Regional Police Commander Fredrick Ochieng’ and Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus also put on notice County Security teams in Rift Valley Region.

While pointing out Nakuru,Bomet, Kericho,Nandi,Kajiado,Samburu,Trans Nzoia,Elgeyo Marakwet counties as the most notorious in illicit brew businesses, Natembeya tasked the officers to ensure no illicit brew in their areas of jurisdiction.

“No county commissioners will sit in office as people die of illicit brew.Those trading in illicit brew be warned” said.

The Regional Commissioner stated that already a Multi-agency team is in place to mount road blocks to avert methanol entry.

]]> Rift valley Regional commissioner George Natembeya on Thursday sounded stern warning to local chiefs and police officers collaborating with illicit Brewers  in Hodihodi area of Kabatini, Bahati Subcounty of Nakuru county.

His sentiments come after 10 people perished after consuming illicit brew in the area.

Natembeya who spoke after holding a meeting with security team in the area was categorical that no government officer should tolerate illicit Brewers and that those doing so would face full wrath of the law.

“There is no way a Chief or police can protect illicit brewer.As a government we will not allow that” said Natembeya.

The RC called on locals to be vigilant and report any Chief or officer who is tolerating sell of illicit brew in the area for action to be taken.

He called on Assistant county commissioners,chiefs,police officers to worker in collaboration in wiping out illicit Brewers in the area.

Natembeya also called on the county government of Nakuru to ensure no wines and spirits shop or bars are not licensed to operate near schools or hospitals.

This even as two more people succumbed after consuming illicit brew on Tuesday in Bahati, Nakuru County, raising the death toll to 10.

Nakuru County Chief Officer of Medical Services Dr. Solomon Sirma confirmed that 16 more people were still being treated following the incident.

According to Dr. Sirma, 9 of them were taken to the Nakuru Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

Police officers have now launched a crackdown against illicit liquor in Hodi Hodi and JC villages in Bahati where the incidences occurred.

Five people initially died after consuming the llicit brew on Tuesday, before Nakuru Health Chief Officer Dr. Dan Wainaina later  on Wednesday, confirmed that three more victims had succumbed while undergoing treatment.

And on Thursday,two more succumbed raising death toll to 10.

]]> Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has called on security agencies to enforce the law and arrest those behind the killer illicit brew in Hodihodi area of Bahati Subcounty.

Kinyanjui who conveyed his message of condolence to the families that lost their loved ones,said it was wrong for people to make money in illicit businesses leading to loss of lives.

“We ask the security agencies to enforce the law and arrest those responsible for selling illicit brew.
It is very sad that we have lost five people in Kabatini, Bahati Sub-County after they consumed illicit brew” he said.

One of those admitted after consuming the poisonous brew is an expectant mother.

She was transferred to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital for specialized treatment after she went blind.

“Our condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones.We visited the area this afternoon and it was unfortunate to see men under the influence of alcohol staggering on the road even after the incident” stated Kinyanjui.

Kinyanjui noted that illicit brew has continued to make  young people unproductive.

He added that his administration will not tolerate sale and consumption of illicit brew that leave  youth unproductive and in some instances, cause death.

It is for this reason that he put on notice enforcement officers who condone such.

“It is unfortunate that some enforcement officers condone and even sell illicit brew.We are putting them on notice that enough is enough.The situation is getting out of hand and if not addressed, residents will take the law into their own hands” said Kinyanjui.

He urged residents to be vigilant and expose those selling the lethal brew.
