The national and county governments have been challenged to allocate more funds to nature talents among persons living with disabilities within the country.

The move follows concerns that a number of these talented groups had been side-lined with others being misused by their managers taking advantage of their situation to rake in cash.

Lucy Gitama said there was little attention on disabled musicians adding that there was a need to allocate more budget for the same.

She said a clear budgetary allocation for this special group would go a long way in boosting their income to reduce dependency on people.

Speaking in Bahati on Sunday during a launch of an album by a blind singer Jane Wambui, – Gitama called on the formulation of more policies to nature such talents adding that talents were wasting in villages.

“There have been concerns that some disabled are not getting their dues.I think it is high time the government  collects data  and disburse the funds to help boost the disabled” she said.

On her part, Jane Wambui called on the government to focus more on embracing the growing talents of persons living with disabilities as ways to ensure they become self-reliant.

Wambui said she is dependent on her music for daily living adding that she has to sell her records manually to earn her income revealing that at times it is a challenge.

“I have been depending on my music for daily bread. The government should look on how it can help us nurture our talents” said Wambui.

At the same time, Benson Gitanga said Wambui’s songs have become a hit in Bahati adding that she has given hope to many in the area.

Area MCA John Njuguna called on other person’s living with disabilities to focus on their talents saying it was the way to go.

“As a county government, we shall do all we can to help PWDs” said MCA Njuguna.
