State appointees from Western Kenya are solely to blame for the region’s underdevelopment and the elusive Luhya unity, Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has stated.
The vocal MP allied to Deputy President Dr William Ruto’s camp says the region rates low on development despite having sons and daughters in high positions in governments since independence.
He said it was hypocritical for the Cabinet Secretaries and other region’s top leaders to now start vouching for development whereas some have been fingered in shady deals leading to collapse of some industries.
“The sugar, cotton and maize industry did not start ailing this year. It has been suffering for over two decades under their watch and no one made any deliberate effort to save the sectors,” he pointed.
In an apparent swipe at Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, the MP says the leaders are engaging in is yet another round of selfish politics to hoodwink voters ahead of the 2022 general elections
Governor Oparanya and CS Wamalwa have been traversing the region after a recent meeting at COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli’s Kajiado home. The two have also sought blessings from Luhya elders.
“We know who these Cabinet Secretaries are campaigning for. We will de-campaign them at whatever cost. Our region will not be used again,” he stated in a statement to newsrooms.
Mr Didmus said the leaders criticized DP Dr Ruto when he toured the region commissioning tangible development project adding that the people of Western Kenya are wiser and know who is for development and who is doing politics.
“In any case what development will be done in the remaining two years of this government?. Where are the resources in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic?,” he quipped.
This comes at a time Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula are still battling the ongoing party coups.
