A move by Deputy President Dr William Ruto and his allies to open a parallel Jubilee Party office is a threat to the Presidency, KANU supremo Nick Salat has stated.
Political analysts say the establishment of the office and chairing a meeting at the premises is the clearest signal that DP Dr Ruto is charting his path from the ruling party.
Early in the week, the embattled DP unveiled a parallel party office ‘Jubilee Asili Centre’ in Kilimani to host his allies who have been de-whipped by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.
Ms Salat said it was so unfortunate the country is in the middle of pandemic and yet Dr Ruto and his allies are not interested in helping President Uhuru to realise the dream of the nation.
“Conspiracies in the name of Asili centres to create disorders is a threat to Presidency, good governance and rule of law,” the independence party KANU Secretary-General warned.
In a tweet on Friday, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen had asked Kenyans to ignore the rumours doing rounds that the DP was in the process of registering another party.
He explained that the Jubilee Asili Centre is a meeting venue for and by members who have been denied access to our party office on Thika Road.
“Jubilee Party is our party, our labour of love and visionary investment, whose fruits we look forward to enjoying,” Mr Murkomen stated.
Jubilee Party vice-chairman and Dr Ruto’s fiercest critic Mr David Murathe said the rival team was free to form a new party but vowed to block any attempt to register Jubilee Asili.
Mr Salat in a Facebook post said the President might be humble but he must be respected.
KANU recently formalised its coalition with the ruling Jubilee Party to take the relationship ‘to the next level’.
