Mt Kenya University has come up with a provision for students to sit for special continuous assessment tests (CATs) in a bid to address missing marks challenges.

Over the years, students at the university have failed to graduate in time due to missing marks, even having sat for the CATs and main exams and having proved to it.

In MKU course-specific Whatsapp groups, students often express frustrations experienced while pursuing the missing marks, even after visiting the MKU headquarters in Thika, Kiambu County.

Today, the university in a notice ti students said a provision had been made in the Student’s Portal for those students with the examinations marks and no CATs to book by registering for special CATs.

To register open the students portal, course registration, Special CATs Reg., Select Semester details, and proceed with registration. Select the units, click register selected units then Click on Assessment courses enrollment.

The special CATs will be administered online in the Assessment Portal from June 21, 2021, to July 3, 2021. The deadline for registration is June 20, 2021. Kindly comply.

Two months ago, MKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Deogratius Jaganyi agreed and regretted that the issue of missing marks has dogged the private multi-campused university for years.

He said the institution is selective in the recruitment of highly qualified members of staff whom he said to deliver a high standard of teaching, churning out highly sort-after graduands.

“It is, therefore, imperative that this is matched with the service to the students,” he stated while expressing the university’s commitment to addressing the missing marks complaints.

Central Organization of Trade Unions, COTU (K) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has hinted at a possible postponement of the 2022 general elections if the constitutional referendum fails to take place before August next year.

Atwoli has also appealed to Kenyans to urge parliamentarians to postpone the elections if at all the Building Bridges Initiative process failed to be passed citing post-poll violence that he said mostly affects workers.

“If something happens and we don’t get it, we will move to the Supreme Court. If we can’t get it, then we will have to start it afresh and we will appeal to our parliamentarians to extend the election by a year,” he proclaimed.

On Thursday, May 13, the High Court ruled that the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 was unconstitutional due to several illegalities encompassed in the bill. BBI proponents have since appealed the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

According to the Constitution, 1) The President shall be elected by registered voters in a national election conducted in accordance with this Constitution and any Act of Parliament regulating presidential elections. (2) An election of the President shall be held-

(a) on the same day as a general election of Members of Parliament, being the second Tuesday in August, in every fifth year; or (b) in the circumstances contemplated in Article 146.

Several Artistes from Kisumu and Nyanza Region as a whole on Tuesday paid their last respect to their fallen colleague Edith Terry Chamah.

Mrs.Chamah who was laid to rest at her home in Nyahera, Kisumu was uologized as a devoted christian who had passion to serve humanity.

Her charity and great humanitarian support in transforming lives of many orphans was also attributed.

She succumbed on June 3, 2021 after a short illness.

Gospel colleagues who attended the funeral service narrated their last moments with her and how she was so passionate about serving vulnerable children.

“Mama never gave me money but she always advised me that do this and that and you will succeed” said Lorna Bolo.

Similar sentiments echoed by gospel Artistes from Homabay.

Led by Kevin Gombe and Phoebe Moses,the Artistes uologized Mrs Chamah as a disciplined person in the industry.

They vowed to continue supporting the music talents in the region.

“She shaped the gospel music industry and we shall stand by her virtues” they said.

Until her demise,Edith was the Director Bethel Rays of Hope orphanage in Kisumu.

She had also started a school in Kandiege, Homabay County besides her new released audio album ‘Panguza Machozi’.

Edith is survived by husband Rev.Martin Chamah,three children(Joskey Chamah,Billy Chamah and Mike Chamah).
