The new matatu stage at the Kenya Railways yard, opposite GateHouse, will be opened by December 1, Governor Lee Kinyanjui has announced.

The Governor has advised matatu stakeholders to form a steering committee that will work with the County Government of Nakuru to ensure a smooth transition to the new stage.

The steering committee will help identify matatu SACCOs that will operate at the new stage, as not all can fit at the moment as the County negotiates for more space from Kenya Railways.

“The committee will handle transport issues at every stage such as planning for the construction of additional bus parks to professionalize the sector,” he stated.

He was speaking when he met representatives of over 60 matatu SACCOs operating in Nakuru Town to discuss long-term solutions to issues affecting the sector.

Mololine Services Limited chairman, Mr Joseph Kariuki, popularly known as Bumasu, advised transport stakeholders not to fall into divisive politics meant to derail beneficial government agenda.

The Governor said his administration would not give room to political rhetoric that harms instead of building small and micro-enterprises, such as markets and the transport sector.

“I am also in talks with the National Government to ensure the sector benefits from funds earmarked for post-COVID-19 economy recovery,” he revealed.

This comes at a time a section of transport operators led by Central Rift Matatus Association chairman, Mr Steve Muli has vowed to force their way back into town.

Environmental Cabinet Secretary, Keriako Tobiko, told the Senate Security Committee on Tuesday, October 26, that Stuchbury was murdered over her relentless efforts to conserve the environment.

CS Tobiko in his submission made a reference to a case before the Kiambu Court that linked a company in which the vocal MP is the director.

In the case, the CS stated that the environmentalist managed to stop the MP from creating an access road through the forest to his personal land. He noted that the MP needs to be probed regarding the matter.

The vocal Nakuru MP and a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto also called on youth to shun divisive politics but rally behind leaders who mean good for the country.

He also used the moment to rubbish claims that he was eyeing a top seat.

According to Ngunjiri, his development record in Bahati is very clear and will be his campaign strategy towards recapturing the seat.

Ngunjiri told off his competitors terming them ‘newcomers’ in politics.

“There are those people going around with propaganda that I will be contesting either as senator or governor. Those are lies which have no room. My record is clear and I will be defending my seat as MP because there is more that needs to be done for my people” said Ngunjiri”.

Details continue to emerge between Bahati Member of Parliament, Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri, and the murdered prominent environmentalist, Joannah Stuchbury.
