Njoro cop kills girlfriend in hospital, turns gun on self

The officer No. 254346 PC Benard Sivo, a kamba male adult aged 28yrs who had just taken over Third shift cell sentry duties at the station excused himself to make a call outside the report office with his AK 47 rifle S/NO. 4912292 with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special and pursued the girlfriend to the hospital, shot her and she died on the spot.

A police officer attached to Njoro Police Station in Njoro sub-county on Sunday night shot and killed his girlfriend who was receiving treatment in hospital.

The officer, Bernard Sivo had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Mary Nyambura who went to seek medication at the hospital.

“Mary Nyambura, 29, visited the hospital with a fracture on her right leg complaining that he had been assaulted by his boyfriend. While being treated an officer while armed entered the hospital and shot the patient severally,” a police statement read in part.

The deceased’s body was found to have been shot severally on the right arm, right wrist and right back.

“The officer then came back to the station while wild and was firing aimlessly within the station endangering the lives of other fellow officers,” the statement said.

The suspect later committed suicide by shooting himself in the chin.

“The officers were mobilized to disarm him but unfortunately shot himself on the chin and the bullet exited on the upper forehead and died instantly,” the statement added.

The two bodies were taken to Egerton University Morgue awaiting postmortem.

Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Kathambi on Thursday clinched UDA ticket in party primaries after outshining her male competitors.
Kathambi emerged winner with 18,340 votes against her competitor John Kaniaru who managed 3,455 votes.
Kinyanjui Mwamba came 3rd with 2,933 votes followed by
Njogu wa Njoroge who got  1,588 votes.
Addressing journalists, Kathambi lauded Njoro residents for having confidence in her.
The award winning peace ambassador was categorical that her strategy in uniting all residents by preaching peace and ensuring equality in development in the area was key to her success.
She expressed hope of clinching the seat come August 9 polls to continue with development agenda for the people of Njoro.
“I want to thank the people of Njoro for their faith in me.It has not been easy for female politicians but I thank God that we had peaceful campaigns and I emerged the winner” she said.

Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Kathambi has called for peaceful co-existence in Njoro ahead of August polls.

She says Njoro is a cosmopolitan constituency hence need for peace to prevail.

The vocal Nakuru MP added that the focus should be on hard work to lift livelihoods.

She warned those trying to cause division among locals to keep off.

“We should not attempt to retreat to ethnic political formations that will erode our peace and development agenda” stated Kathambi.

She reiterated that the constituency can only develop if there is unity of purpose.

Three die in a road accident hours after cultural initiation ceremony

The youths had yesterday spent the day in a cultural function conducted at Kahiriga Shrine where they were handed back to their parents after 12 successful days and they were in a journey back to their homes.

Three initiates from Kahiriga Kikuyu cultural shrines have died tonight and several others left with serious injuries after a car they were travelling in rolled several times at Davision Area along the Njoro – Mau Narok road.

According to eyewitnesses the car they were travelling in is suspected to have veered off the road and rolled severally causing the deaths.
