Preparations are on top gear for Kenya to host the World Rally Championship slated for  24 to 27 June 2021.

WRC Safari Rally Chief Executive Officer and Kenya Motor Sports Federation (KMSF) Chairman Phineas Kimathi has reiterated the importance of the return of the World Rally Championship to motorsport fraternity in the country.

Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday after holding a closed door meeting with Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Kimathi expressed that all is set   for the event.

“This is a great opportunity for Kenya since we have missed out for the last 19 years. All is set and we are working with all stakeholders to finalize the preparations so that we can deliver a great competition” he said.

He assured that steps are in place to ensure safety of participants and the rest of the stakeholders.

Nakuru County will reap big from the Multi-billion-event with already hotels in Naivasha fully booked for the event.

The rally,which will take place in Naivasha, has major benefits for Nakuru County with over 5,000 guests from all over the world expected to attend.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui on his part stated that the event will be a boost to to tourism an hospitality sector in Nakuru.

“Preparations have been in place from security to hospitality industry. We will be working with tourism players to ensure the visitors coming can also be a benefit to the county. Security and safety measures are in place to ensure peaceful and successful rally” said Kinyanjui.

He added that the event is plus and good news to Nakuru hospitality industry that was hit by the harsh economic times occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.

Chinese pay television company StarTimes said Friday that it has secured broadcast rights to the UEFA European Championship 2020 in Kenya for the event that is slated to take place from June 11-July 11.

StarTimes regional marketing director Aldrine Nsubuga said that Kenyan subscribers will be able to enjoy top European footballing talent as they fight for their country’s pride and honour.

“Euro 2020 is the number one football competition this year where it will feature some of the best teams in the world including both finalists of the 2018 World Cup, France, and Croatia. We are therefore proud that we will be giving Kenyan subscribers a front-row seat as they rally behind their favourite football stars fighting for national honours,” Nsubuga said in a statement issued in Nairobi.

The tournament was postponed in March 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak and will be the 16th UEFA European Championship bringing together 24 international men’s football teams fighting to be declared champions of Europe.

Nsubuga said that StarTimes will broadcast the tournament across its five sports channels as well as on StarTimes ON streaming application, live and in HD in Kenya.

UEFA Euro 2020 will mark 60 years of the tournament where for the first time ever, the competition will be played across 12 host countries and cities with a total of 51 matches being played during the month.

Githima FC have been crowned champions of the Nakuru Town West NG-CDF second edition football tournament.

The team’s 2 goals against Kaptembwa FC’s nil saw them crowned champions during finals held at Nakuru West Secondary school grounds in Nakuru West.

Githima FC’s goals were scored by Austine Otieno and Victor Ochieng in 32^nd  and 75^th  minutes of the game respectively.

They received trophy and Ksh.50, 000 while position 2 went to Kaptembwa United FC who received trophy and Ksh.30,000.

08 Community FC scooped position 3 while Bagarian FC managed position 4 with the teams making away with Ksh.30,000 and Ksh.20,000 respectively.

Golden boot went to Victor Ochieng’ from Kaptembwa FC and Victor Ochieng’ from Githima FC.

The best golkeeper went to Philip Kiprotich from Kaptembwa FC and George Ochieng’ from Githima FC.

According to one of the event officials Joakim Mbalilwa, the second edition was targeting 500 youths from various wards of  Nakuru West.

The event was presided over by area MP Samuel Arama who was accompanied by area DCC Michael Lesimam.

Speaking during the event, Arama vowed to continue supporting talents through NG-CDF.

While lauding the teams that participated, the Legislator said such will ensure youths are engaged and not engage in matters crime.

The Legislator vowed to sponsor another tournament from his pocket ‘Arama Youth Tournament’ to be held during April holidays of 2021.

“We will continue to nurture talents through the NG-CDF kitty. This is one way to ensure our youths are engaged to avert criminal activities” he said.

Sentiments echoed by area Deputy County Commissioner Michael Lesimam who called on locals to continue adhering to MOH’ COVID-19 protocols.

The event was also attended by Nakuru Benchmarking Team led by Simon Ole Nasieku who lauded MP Arama for supporting youths develop their talents.
