The police department in Njoro sub-County has refuted claims that its officers are protecting illicit brewers in the area.

Area police boss Mohammed Huka says his officers have been making arrests and charging them in courts.

In the recent past, locals have blamed the police of collecting protection fees from the well-known brewers.

They added that cases of insecurity had increased as criminals sought money for the illicit drinks.

Mr Huka pointed out that they have been playing their part of making arrests but the brewers are often fleed by courts.

“I call upon members of the public to stop the blames and join police in the war against the vice,” he pleaded in a phone interview.
