One person has died on the spot while two others have sustained serious injuries after a light aircraft crashed in Naivasha sub-County.
The incident happened during an exercise to monitor locust invasion in Jerusalem, within Ndabibi area in Maiella Ward.
“It is too early to establish the cause of the crash but, generally, we had bad weather for the better part of the day,” Deputy County commissioner Kisilu Mutua.
Investigations are underway to establish what caused the accident. Police said the scene of the accident was not easily accessible. The area has a tough terrain.
Last year, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations donated 3 aircraft to boost Kenya’s fight against desert locusts that have spread to 26 counties.
The incident comes a few weeks after a chopper belonging to the Kenya Defence Forces crashed in Kajiado County, killing soldiers who were on board.
County modernizes slaughterhouses to upscale capacity, enhance meat quality
At the same time, the County Government of Nakuru has embarked on a livestock vaccination drive against Foot and Mouth, Lumpy Skin Disease and Rabies to create disease-free zones
The County Government of Nakuru has embarked on a program to renovate and modernize slaughterhouses in the region to upscale capacity and enhance food quality and safety measures.
The region has over 80 slaughterhouses but only 5 are managed by the County Government of Nakuru. The rest are owned and managed by businessmen and ranchers.
Chief Officer for Livestock and Fisheries, Dr Enos Amuyunzu said the move was also aimed at creating room for other essential amenities within central business districts in urban areas.
Dr Amuyunzu was speaking during an inspection tour of an upcoming Shs15 million modern slaughterhouse at Mirera in Hells Gate Ward, Naivasha sub-County.
The facility upon completion will accommodate butchers from the Naivasha Slaughterhouse near Buffalo Mall to pave way for the construction of 2,400 units of affordable houses.
Over 100 heads of cattle and over 200 small animals will be slaughtered per day. The County will also construct an auction yard in the vicinity to enhance livestock trade in the area.
The facility’s project implementation committee chairman, Mr John Ngigi said the project will create employment among local youth, who mostly depend on fishing activities.
At the same time, the County Government of Nakuru has embarked on a livestock vaccination drive against Foot and Mouth, Lumpy Skin Disease and Rabies to create disease-free zones.
The County is also mulling at establishing a tannery under the manufacturing and food security economic agenda to enrich the livestock sector value chain.
CAS Linah Jebii calls on Kenyans to embrace Agriculture as white collar job

Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Linah Jebii Kilimo has called for the need to embrace Agriculture as a white-collar job.
Speaking in Nakuru on Monday, Dr Jebii noted that agriculture is the way to go as a country as it will give more job opportunities even for the youths in the country.
She revealed that the Ministry has commenced a program to re-stock fingerlings in some of the fishing lakes among them Lake Naivasha.
The CAS also adding that there are blue-collar jobs in the many opportunities in the Kenyan, rivers, Lakes and Ocean which should be maximized on.
“Let’s make agriculture a white-collar job and there is also the blue-collar in our oceans, lakes and rivers. We are headed t Naivasha where we have a program to re-stock the Lake Naivasha with fish fingerlings” she said.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui lauding the CAS for the move stating that it will go long way in addressing challenges of food security but at the same time boost the economy through job creation.

CAS Jebii who is also an ambassador when it comes to fighting Female Genital Mutilation(FGM) also used the opportunity to call on those still practising it FGM to shun and ensure girls are in school.
Wanango sworn in as Lakeview MCA, meets Governor Lee
Majority Leader Moses Ndung’u lauded Wanango as a team leader who diligently steered the implementation committee chairman.
Mr Simon Wanyoike Wanango has been sworn in as the Member of the County Assembly for the Lakeview Ward.
He returns to the Assembly after 3 years through a by-election following the death of Mr Karanja Mburu in a road accident in April.
He said he would ensure development projects initiated by the late Mburu are completed as well initiate others.
“I am grateful to the people of Lakeview Ward for giving me another chance to transform lives through development,” said Mr Wanango.
Speaker Joel Maina Kairu asked Wanango to use the vast experience he has to better the lives of the people of Lakeview Ward.
“You join the House at a crucial time when the supplementary budget is being debated. Ensure Lakeview Ward benefits,” he said.

Majority Leader Mr Moses Ndung’u lauded Wanango as a team leader who diligently steered the implementation committee chairman.
Mr Wanango later met Governor Lee Kinyanjui at his Milimani Office where they took stock of the region’s development projects.
Sources privy to the meeting said the two prioritized on the settlement of Kihoto residents displaced by the swelling of Lake Naivasha.
